Prehistory of the GEMINI next Generation project

It started in autumn 1991 with the GEMINI habitable solar power plant, 2011 with the initiative Solar Building Land and 2018 with GEMINI 66 - we build our house ourselves.

What does a house look like that makes an adequate contribution to the overall energy supply of an industrial state as far north as Germany? First of all, the energy supply and the switch to 100% renewable energy had to be investigated.

Biomass has a catastrophically low yield compared to photovoltaics or wind energy. Therefore everything has to be converted to electricity. A review of the sectors showed that the electricity demand will increase from 500 TWH in 1990 in Germany to 1200 TWh in 2040.

A simple calculation that was contrary to the dogmas of that time. Only in summer 2016 this was fully confirmed by the Study Sector Coupling by Prof. Volker Quaschning.

1200 TWh divided by 80 million inhabitants times 2 inhabitants per house results in 30,000 kWh. The project "GEMINI inhabited solar power plant" was therefore designed with this annual yield in mind.

  2001 GEMINI House in Weiz

A strongly reduced form of the GEMINI Haus, only 8,500 kWh annual yield, was the main attraction of the Styrian regional energy exhibition in 2001. It is a Worth seeing the city of Weiz.

  2018 GEMINI 66 - we build our house ourselves

An extremely cost-optimized house with a lot of possibilities for personal contribution. But it also showed how incredibly quickly over 100 tons of concrete can be laid. The foundation, the prestressed concrete slabs and the weight of the concrete in tons is three digits.

The project GEMINI 66 in Faistenau failed. Why? From April 2018 to January 2019 I was the only serious interested person in this very beautiful property. That already says enough about the resistance of the local politics.

As much as possible! Because we need to get out of oil, coal, biofuel, natural gas and uranium. Our houses should contribute as much as possible.
